Build a Smarter CRM Home Page with Custom List Views
Stop scrolling through noise. Learn how to surface exactly what your team needs — the moment they log in — by turning module list views into powerful Home page components.
Why the Default Home Page Falls Short
Out of the box, the Zoho CRM Home page is a generic dashboard. It shows you pipeline charts, activity feeds, and task summaries that were designed to work for everyone — which means they’re perfectly optimized for no one.
Sales reps want to see their hottest leads. Managers want team pipeline health. Customer success needs at-risk accounts front and center. With the default layout, each of these people has to navigate to the right module, find the right filter, and rebuild that context every single day.
“The best CRM dashboard is one where your team never has to think about what to look at next — it’s already right there.”
— A principle of effective CRM design
The solution isn’t a third-party widget or a paid add-on. It’s built right into Zoho CRM: List View Components on the Home page. Once set up, they turn your Home page into a live, filtered, role-specific command center.
How Custom Home Views Actually Work
There are two moving parts to understand before you start clicking:
Part A — Module List Views
Every module in Zoho CRM (Leads, Contacts, Deals, Accounts, etc.) has a “List View” — a table of records filtered and sorted according to rules you define. You can save these as named views like “My Hot Leads This Month” or “Deals Closing in 14 Days.” These views persist and update in real time.
Part B — Home Page Components
The CRM Home page has a drag-and-drop component system. One component type is the List View component, which lets you select any saved view from any module and display it as a table widget on your home page. It refreshes automatically and respects your CRM permissions.

Who Benefits & Use Cases by Role
Custom home views aren’t just a power-user trick — they change how entire teams interact with their CRM data. Here’s how different roles can use them:
Sales Rep
See your hottest leads, deals closing this week, and follow-up tasks — all on one screen.
Sales Manager
Monitor team pipeline health, stalled deals, and leads without contact in 5+ days.
Customer Success
Surface accounts with low engagement scores or open support tickets needing attention.
Marketing
Track new leads by campaign source, MQL conversion rates, and uncontacted inbound leads.
Account Manager
View renewal dates, upsell opportunities, and accounts by value tier at a glance.
CRM Admin
Build and publish shared views for each team so everyone logs in to a relevant dashboard.
Step-by-Step: Creating List Views in Each Module
Before you can add anything to the Home page, you need to create and save the list views inside each module. Here’s exactly how to do it:
-
Navigate to the target module
From the top navigation bar in Zoho CRM, click on the module you want to create a view for (e.g., Leads, Deals, Contacts, Accounts).
-
Open the List View panel
On the module’s list page, look for the view selector on the left sidebar or the dropdown at the top of the records list. You’ll see default views like “All Leads” or “My Leads.”
-
Create a new view
Click the “+ Add View” or “Create View” button. Give your view a descriptive name — be specific, e.g., “Hot Leads – Assigned to Me – This Month.”
-
Set your filter criteria
Use the filter builder to define your criteria. You can filter by field values (e.g., Lead Status = Hot), ownership (e.g., Owner = Current User), date ranges, and more. Stack multiple conditions using AND/OR logic.
-
Choose which columns to display
Select the fields (columns) that matter for this view — keep it to 4–6 columns max for readability on the Home page component. You can drag to reorder them.
-
Set a sort order
Choose a default sort, e.g., by Created Date (newest first) or Deal Amount (highest first). This sort carries over to the Home component display.
-
Set visibility (shared vs. private)
Choose who can see this view: Only Me, Everyone, or specific Roles/Territories. For a team-wide Home layout, set it to the relevant role group.
-
Save the view
Click Save. Your view now appears in the module’s view list and — critically — becomes available as a selectable source for Home page components.
Step-by-Step: Adding List Views as Home Components
Once your list views are saved, adding them to the Home page takes just a few minutes. Here’s the process:
-
Go to the CRM Home page
Click the Home icon or tab in the top navigation bar of Zoho CRM to return to your main dashboard.
-
Enter Customize mode
Look for the Customize button or the gear/edit icon in the top-right corner of the Home page. Click it to enter the layout editor. You’ll see an outline of your current components appear.
-
Add a new component
Click “+ Add Component” (or “Add Widget” depending on your version). A panel or modal will open showing all available component types.
-
Select “List View” as the component type
From the component type list, choose List View. This is specifically the component that maps to your saved module views. Don’t confuse it with Charts or Reports.
-
Choose the module and view
Select the Module first (e.g., Leads), then select your specific saved view from the dropdown (e.g., “Hot Leads – This Week”). Only views you have permission to see will appear.
-
Set the component title and record count
Give the component a clear display name (this appears as the widget header). Set how many records to show — typically 5 to 10 is enough for a Home page widget. More than 10 can make the page feel heavy.
-
Position the component
Drag the component to your desired position on the Home page layout. Zoho CRM uses a column-based grid. You can stack multiple components side by side or full-width.
-
Save your layout
Click Save or Done to exit Customize mode and confirm your layout. Your Home page will now show the live list view data.
Layout Examples & Designs
The real power comes from combining multiple views into a purposeful layout. Here are three common configurations and what they look like:
Layout A — Sales Rep Daily Driver
Designed for individual contributors. Everything is filtered to “my records” — tight, personal, and actionable. A compact 2-column layout keeps the page scannable.
Layout B — Sales Manager Team Overview
A 3-column layout showing team-wide data. Filters are set to “All Users” under the manager’s territory, giving a birds-eye view of pipeline health.
Layout C — Customer Success Focus
Optimized for post-sale teams. Views pull from Accounts and Contacts modules with filters for renewal dates, health scores, and escalation flags.
Problems You May Encounter (and How to Fix Them)
Even straightforward setups can hit snags. Here are eight of the most common issues — with their root causes and exact fixes — so you can troubleshoot quickly and keep your Home page running smoothly.
Views Not Showing Records
Your component renders correctly, but the table is empty — even though records clearly exist in that module.
Cause: Mismatched filters or permission restrictions. The view’s filter criteria may exclude all current records, or the view is set to “Only Me” visibility, preventing others from seeing any data through it.
✅ Fix: Double-check your filter criteria by opening the view directly in the module and confirming records appear. If the view is meant to be shared, change its visibility to “Everyone” or the appropriate role group.Home Page Not Saving
You arrange your components, click Save, but the layout reverts — or the Save button doesn’t respond at all.
Cause: Browser cache conflicts or too many components overloading the page editor. Certain browsers also have known compatibility quirks with Zoho’s Home page editor.
✅ Fix: Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload CRM. Try saving your layout in stages — add 1–2 components at a time and save after each. If the issue persists, switch to a different browser (Chrome is most reliable with Zoho CRM).Role Association Errors
When trying to assign a Home page layout or view to a specific role, Zoho throws an error or the role doesn’t appear as an option.
Cause: The role is already linked to another Home page layout. Zoho CRM only allows one active Home page assignment per role — you can’t layer them.
✅ Fix: Navigate to the existing Home page assigned to that role and delete or unlink it first. Once the role is free, you can assign your new layout to it without conflict.Accidental Edits in Embedded Views
Team members are inadvertently editing records directly from the Home page widget — changing field values without realizing they’re making live changes.
Cause: List View widgets allow inline editing by default, similar to how Zoho Sheet widgets behave. A single click on a field opens it for editing, which is easy to trigger accidentally while scrolling.
✅ Fix: Open the component settings for that widget and disable the inline editing option. This makes the Home component read-only, so users must navigate into the record to make changes.Performance Lag
The Home page takes noticeably longer to load, especially with multiple list view components active.
Cause: Too many dynamic views running simultaneously. Each component fires a live data query on page load, and complex or open-ended filters force Zoho to scan large record sets every time.
✅ Fix: Limit the number of rows per component to 5–8 instead of the maximum. Replace dynamic date filters (e.g., “this week”) with static filters where possible, and remove any components that aren’t actively used.Inconsistent Display Across Devices
Your Home page looks great on desktop but appears broken, cramped, or reordered on mobile — or vice versa.
Cause: The desktop layout and mobile layout render differently. Zoho CRM’s responsive design reflows components for smaller screens, but multi-column layouts can collapse in unexpected ways.
✅ Fix: Test your layout on both desktop and mobile after saving. Zoho’s responsive engine handles most adjustments, but prioritize your most critical views in the top positions — they’ll always be visible regardless of screen size.Permission Denials When Editing Shared Pages
A team member tries to customize a shared Home page layout and gets a “permission denied” error or simply can’t see the Customize button.
Cause: Non-admin users don’t have permission to edit shared or role-level Home pages. Only CRM administrators can modify layouts that have been pushed to a role or marked as shared.
✅ Fix: Grant the user temporary admin access to make the needed changes, then revert their permissions. Alternatively, have them build their own personal Home layout using the “Customize” option on their individual dashboard — personal customizations don’t require admin rights.Missing Components After View Deletion
A widget that was previously working on the Home page has disappeared or shows a broken state.
Cause: The underlying list view was deleted from the module. Home components are live references — if the source view is removed, the component loses its data source and vanishes or errors out.
✅ Fix: Go back to the original module, recreate the list view with the same name and filter criteria, then re-add it as a Home component. Going forward, avoid deleting views that are actively used by Home components — check references before deleting.Benefits Summary
